2018/09/19: Ten years from now, we might look back at the emergence of social media as a part of humanity’s growing-up – a time that created social divisions, anxiety and restlessness and which damaged the health and well-being of many. Until then, maybe it’s best to put our smartphones down – or at least switch them off a little more often.
2009/09/11: the problem of too much screen-time in a household is really a parental problem.
we have lost much of the community that made it easier to raise children. It’s well-documented elsewhere (see Robert Putnam’s work) and I won’t rant, but without safe neighborhoods and at-home parents around, our kids’ lives are quite attenuated, and they rightly expect us to entertain them within these limitations.
When she went to Egypt for vacation, Mona el-Mazbouh surely didn't expect to end up in prison. But after the 24-year-old Lebanese tourist posted a video in which she complained of sexual harassment-calling Egypt a lowly, dirty country and its citizens "pimps and prostitutes"-el-Mazbouh was arrested...
An Instagram post by Kevin James Bennett, an Emmy Award-winning makeup artist and cosmetics developer set the beauty influencer community aflame on Tuesday. In it, Bennett describes the "mob-like behavior" of high-profile beauty influencers and the management teams he was in touch with to reviews for beauty products he was releasing under his own name. Bennett claims the influencers offered to trash a competing product in comparison to Bennett's products in exchange for $75,000 to $85,000. Bennett also called out the all-too-common practice of skirting disclosure requirements and urged the FTC to start issuing fines:rnrn A brand I consulted with asked me to inquire about working with a top-level beauty influencer. The influencer's management offered me these options:rnrn 1) $25K - product mention in a multi-branded product review.rn 2) $50K-$60K - dedicated product review (price determined by length of video).rn 3) $75K-$85K - dedicated negative review of a competitor's product (price determined by length of video).rn 4) A minimum 10% affiliate link or code to use on IG and YT.rnrn Yes, option n. 3 is legit - payment to damage the competition's business. I told you it was mob-like behavior.
